With reference to your letter No. 72796/30 of the

4th June on the subject of the exchange and currency

situation in Hongkong, I am directed by Mr. Secretary

Henderson to transmit for perusal and return a copy of

the Kemmerer report which has been received from His

Majesty's Minister in Peking

This report contains a very

full account of the currency situation in China but as

only one copy is at present available Sir Miles Lampson

is being instructed by telegraph to send additional

copies as soon as possible.

A copy of the Kemmerer

Report has already been sent direct by His Majesty's

Consul-General at Shanghai to the Governor of Hongkong

2. Mr. Henderson is not calling for a report from

His Majesty's Minister as he feels he could add nothing

of value to the account given by the Kemmerer mission.

I am,

Enela in oug le 76. (41)

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

Cw. Order
